Objective: Deliver LED Lighting Upgrade via the LED Scheme
Background: Entu were asked by the UK’s leading independent outdoor retailer, Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports, to improve the quality of light at their central warehouse and distribution centre. The client also wanted to reduce response lighting maintenance costs and reduce their energy use and carbon footprint, reflecting their commitment to a series of company-wide initiatives that are aimed at reducing their environmental impact.
Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports Warehouse & Distribution Centre services their 24 shops across the UK as well as two mountain resort shops at Aviemore and Fort William in the Scottish Highlands.
Implementation and Results
Over the period of December 7th to 23rd December, delivering on time and to budget, Entu successfully delivered the LED scheme, reducing total lamp wattage from 63.9k to just 29.5k, whilst greatly improving the level and quality of light in the warehouse and distribution facility.
The scheme also delivered the following savings:
- The reduction in energy use delivers an annual saving of £16,181 at today’s energy costs, based on site specific energy consumption.
- Our supply partner offers a 5 year warranty on LED lamps, so further savings are identified through the reduction in responsive maintenance on site.
- Total annual savings of £17,681 were endorsed by the client.
Longer Term Results
Based on the specific energy profile and efficient life expectancy of the replacement lamps, the 10 year saving generated by the scheme, factoring in a prudent increase in energy prices, is an impressive £144,552.
The LED Scheme
The scheme has a payback period of just 2.57 years. We initially looked at financing the cost over 5 years, which would actually have been cash positive by £7.5k in year one. LED schemes of this type qualify for an enhanced capital allowance from HMRC however, so the client is paying the full amount to maximise on the 20% tax saving.
Ellis Brigham is delighted with the improvement in its lighting within the warehouse and its associated cost and energy savings, both now and in the future. They also feel that the LED lighting creates a safer working environment as it allows their employees working areas to be better illuminated.
